2686-1070BC. Natural cowrie, over 5/8” (0.68”) with the back of the shell polished off to form an oval. These were imported and carried status for the wearer as well as symbolizing fertility, protection, and prosperity due to their shape. This example retains much of its surface gloss indicating a protected burial. They are found in middle Kingdom burials.
