Schleswig-Holstein lies at the base of the Jutland Peninsula, the common border of Sweden and Germany and historically, was ruled by both as well as independent at times. The Schleswig-Holstein Infantry was raised, and served Tsar Peter the Great, during the Great Northern War (1700-21) which pit Russia and her allies against Sweden. The Russian royal house was Holstein-Gottorp-Romanov and bore the title of Dukes of Schleswig-Holstein until its dissolution in 1918. This weapon is inscribed RUS KAYSER SCHLESW HOLST INFANTERIE at the blade base. Above, is the crowned cipher of Peter the Great. The decoration is overlaid in gold which is preserved throughout. 82 1/2" length.
