Mid-18th century of plain large fighting form. Iron hilt with peaked oval guard and inverted conical pommel. Long broad knuckle bow and straight cross guard with compressed arms. Twisted copper wire wrapped grip. 31 1/2" stiff diamond section blade of rapier form. Completely undecorated. Hilt and blade with frosty to light pitting and good medium gray patina. Grip complete with dark patina. Probably an officer's field sword and very likely American made for the French and Indian War. Patterned after civilian side arms but proportioned for combat.
