South central Mexico, C.300 BC-300 AD. 6.4" inch height. Standing female with prominent anatomical features, well delineated necklace and horizontally braided hair. That last feature was reserved for royalty only and this figure is from the royal circle. Figures with that feature are considered cultural properties and are now forbidden by law to be taken outside Mexico. This example is from an old collection and its acquisition predates the prohibition. Excellent condition with original pigmented detail, predominately to the back of the head. A major and important Pre Columbian figure.
