The harebell, also known as the Scottish bluebell was a thinly veiled display of Scottish pride, replacing the traditional thistle. Following the failed Jacobite uprising of 1745, any display of Scottish symbolism which could be considered nationalistic, was, until 1782 unlawful. Complementary borders in and out with sunbursts in the wells. The cup with the crescent mark under glaze. Fine rich decoration with the gold edges lightly worn.
