Iron. 23 1/4" blade of broad tapering form inscribed with a stylized cross bisecting an S each side. Down turned guard with a Maltese cross to the middle. Scroll decorated grip and diced pyramidal form pommel. Good genuine patina with lamination showing on the blade as expected of a genuine example. The short sword in various forms was most popular in Italy. This example accords with many examples in public collections and is based on the cinquedea.
