Peterson #53. Probably the most sought standard pattern American sword. Produced by Ames, the ricasso with just remnants of markings (US inspectors mark only visible and obscured). Ames was notorious for very lightly struck marks, many of which were only partially legible when new. 25 ¾” broad fullered curved blade with uniform ageing, dark staining and some minor pitting consistent with use at sea. Brass hilt with issue numbers to both sides of the quillon and the pommel. Good wire wrapped grip.
