Buff terra cotta, 3” (3.07”) length of “Herodian” style dating 37BC-50AD, Judea. The form identified by its circular body and flared spout with elegant side returns. Raised edge filler surrounded by palmette or wheel motifs. The spout base with a votive (sacrificial) bundle, probably flowers. The back with a cross or saltire serving as the thumb rest. Excellent with very light surface adhesion from burial. The specific type used in Judea in Christ’s lifetime.
