ROMAN FIBULA, LATE 2ND-5TH CENTURY AD

See Die romischen Fibeln aus Augst und Kaiseraugst, Riha, type B6 with tubular pin hinge. Bronze, 1 ½” (1.58”) length of delicate form, probably for a lady’s garment. Transversely ribbed bow with a central ridged plate flanked above nub projections. The hand ribbed detail intact. Complete with cross pin (usually lost) and pin rest. The fibula is the original safety pin, used to fasten garments and serving as decorative jewelry as well.
