FRENCH SILVERED HILT OFFICER’S SWORD, C.1790

French Revolution and Napoleonic War period. Silvered brass hilt with rococo boat shaped guard of curved section. Flattened knuckle bow and cross guard and plumed helmet form pommel. Fine twisted wire grip. 33 ¼ single edged blade with broad fuller half its length, the forte etched, blued and gilt with military trophies, foliage and Sun King. Etching crisp with most gold intact. The blue faded. Hilt retains about 70% original silver finish. Grip excellent.
