FRENCH OFFICER'S SWORD C.1790

French Revolution period. Brass hilt with rococo boat shaped guard of recurved section. Flattened knuckle bow and cross guard and plumed helmet form pommel. Diced ebony grip with banded ferrules. 30 1/2" s.e. blade with broad fuller half its length, the forte etched with military trophies, foliage and maker's inscription (weak) and Solingen. Shows frosty light pitting with a few isolated spots a little heavier with glossy old black oxidation, all consistent with its age. Blade seat dry, congealed and tattered. Hilt elements with soft medium patina. Grip excellent with very minor bruises and slight grain opening from age.
