FINE US M.1860 STAFF & FIELD OFFICER’S SWORD

See The American Sword, Peterson #121. Standard pattern carried by Union sergeants in the Civil War. Brass hilt with eagle pommel and guard. Upturned left side guard. Floral motif knuckle bow. Spirally fluted leather covered grip with twisted wire wrap. 27 3/4” double edged diamond section blade decorated with panels of foliage, American Eagle, U S  and arms splays. The forte marked WARNOCK & CO NEW YORK. That supplier was established in 1838 and actively supplied swords and uniforms to Federal officers.  Original scabbard complete and undented. The blued metal turned to brown with some wear only.  From the famous Frank Barnyak collection.
