EUROPEAN PILGRIM'S OR CRUSADER’S CROSS, 8th-12th CENTURY

8th-12th century. Gilt bronze, 1 1/4", (1.28”) total height. The crossbeam is centered with a square. The center with a linear cross form and superimposed on a saltire, with traces of niello inlay. The back is recessed for the inclusion of a holy relic such as the hair of a saint.  Professionally refurbished with 24karat gold surface restored, on an 18” modern gilt Sterling silver neck chain.
