Iron hilt with oval guard pierced in scallops joining at circles and enclosing foliate diamonds. Faceted urn form pommel. Faceted grip and diamond section knuckle bow with serpentine medial expansion. Each element profusely set with separate faceted studs following and accenting the form. A few studs missing, but excellent with bright surfaces and crisp detail. 33 1/2" concave face triangular section, undecorated as made and in matching crisp condition with minor gray surface staining and original cross polish to the forte. The Revolution in France brought political discord to the streets of England making personal defense capability essential. This sword with substantial blade, mounted in the latest fashion as was expected of an officer, satisfied that need.
