12th-13th century, Saracen. Bronze, of the form identified by Nicolle as “widely used by the Saracens.” Broad band with slightly thickened underside to engage the bow string. Triangular rest opposite which seated the ring on the thumb back and distributed the pressure. Surface lightly textured over remnants of decoration. Condition typical of sand burial and likely from the Holy Land. Large ring size 13 1/2 (for the thumb) and suitable for wear on the finger of a large man.
