CONGOLESE SLAVER’S SPEAR C.1890’s.

From the Baptist Missionary Society Collection. 23” overall with 4 ½” of its original haft. Cut for transport as these were taken around to churches in England to raise money for the missions.  Finely forged with a medial ridge flanked by broad fullers. Open seam conical socket. Brown surface rust on uniform frosty surface. Both edges show considerable evidence of battle involvement with shallow nicks from parrying. At the time, the sole purpose of tribal warfare was the capture of slaves for the East African/Arab market.
