CIVIL WAR SOLDIER’S TOBACCO BOX

Tinned steel, 2 5/8” diameter. Ex: Schindler’s Antiques, King Street Charleston, SC. Purchased by us in the 1980s from Schindler’s personal collection. Bun form based on the fancier snuff boxes of the period. Two pieces pressed “tin” with a simple hinge. Expected surface wear with fine patina. Tobacco was a staple for soldiers and served to barter as well.
