See Peterson #26 for a near identical example by Starr dated pre-1808. This example with brass hilt and ribbed grip made without wire wrap has a 33” blade, broad fullered for most its length. Swords such as this were purchased by states prior to 1808 after which the Federal government supplied them to the states. These early purchases were either by small quantity contracts or from available stock. This example is well preserved with a few small patches of black staining/pitting to the end of the blade only and retains its original bade seat.
