13th-14th century. Bonze, over 1 7/8” diameter. Circular with integral tab for securing to the barding. Raised edge and central motif of four serpentine forms radiating from a central circle or hub. Perhaps related to the triskelion as used on the arms of the Isle of Mann. Suspended from the bridle, these were worn for tournaments and are most often found on old tournament fields. Excellent as found condition.
