KONDA CANNIBAL'S SWORD, 19TH CENTURY

19th century from the slave trade for human consumption (cannibalism). Classic form with 12 1/2” double edged blade terminating in opposing hook tips used to handle the dismembered body parts which were sold individually. See the 1890 account by Glave who traveled with Stanley (of Livingston fame) and witnessed the process. Wood hilt with brass trade tape wrapped flared base and expanded pommel for optimum grip. Finely forged blade with black forged finish and bright edges: Baptist Missionary Society collection, collected about 1890. Tag not included.
