Second half of the 19th century, precolonial period. 9 1/2" s.e./d.e. blade thick, well-crafted with medial ridge forming double fullers first half. Wood hilt with engraved sheet brass crest. Brass scabbard with 4 laminated white metal panels. The hilt and panels all deeply and crisply engraved in stylized foliage. That treatment is very rare as these are usually decorated with embossing or shallow perfunctory engraving. The back engraved in open patterns. Side lugs with both suspension rings intact. The scabbard with its baluster tip and reinforcing spine. Good honest 19th century fighting example of superior workmanship in excellent preservation for the period.
