Roman period. Gilt bronze, dome form, 0.54” diameter made by the open face mold technique with the suspension ring attached separately.  The worship of Ra, the sun god embodied cosmic order. As with other Egyptian deities, his popularity diminished under Roman rule, blending with Roman paganism. By the fourth century, Christianity was the dominant religion. This amulet belonged to a believer who worshiped at one of the temples to Ra. It is mounted on an 18” gilt silver neck chain for modern wear. Gift boxed with certificate of authenticity.
