ANCIENT VIKING HEART PENDANT NECKLACE, 866-1067 AD

Danelaw (Viking) England. Gilt bronze. Over 5/8” (0.66”) width. Broad heart form, with rounded (uncusped) top and raised edge and trefoil decoration. Foliate designs were favored by Vikings and incorporated into about half of heart pendants. The heart stood for bravery, fortitude, loyalty, integrity, all attributes of the Viking warrior. It is abundantly referenced in Viking literature. Professionally refurbished with the gold overlay restored on an 18” gilt sterling silver neck chain for contemporary wear. Gift boxed with certificate of authenticity.
