So-called Irish Hilt variation, Neumann 265.S. Iron basket hilt of heavy flattened bars forming a cross with additional vertical to the right and a cross in an oval to the back. The panels flank a solid oval conjoining its vertical bars. Fluted domed pommel with large button. Wire wrapped black leather grip. 38 3/8” broad fullered single-edged blade. Hilt shows uniform chocolate brown patina, probably turned from blue. Grip excellent. Blade with mottled gray patina. These were associated with the 6th Inniskilling Dragoon Guards, so named in 1751, which served in the British Army. They distinguished themselves at the Charge of the Union Brigade at Waterloo.
