ANCIENT VIKING HEART PENDANT NECKLACE, 866-1067 AD

Danelaw England. Gilt bronze. Over 7/8”(0.94”) total height. Broad heart form with lush raised edge continuing into the field as a well detailed relief ] trefoil of particularly lavish scrolling foliage. Foliate designs were favored by Vikings and incorporated into about half of heart pendants. The heart stood for bravery, fortitude, loyalty, integrity, all attributes of the Viking warrior. It is abundantly referenced in Viking literature. Professionally refurbished with the gold overlay restored on an 18” gilt sterling silver neck chain for contemporary wear.  Gift boxed with certificate of authenticity.
