JAPANESE SWORD GUARD, TSUBA, FOR THE SHORT SWORD, WAKIZACHI

Edo period, late 18^th-19^th  century. Forged iron, oval, just over 2 ½” height with two riobitsu. Smooth plate embellished with a single relief figure of a reclining buffalo in characteristic Japanese reserve. Smooth surface with good patina.
