Edo Period, before 1867. Armor piercing yanagiha (willow leaf) form. See Glossary of the decoration, Construction and Use of Arms and Armor, Stone fig.862 #2. 6 3/8” length with a tapered tang. Heavy proportions as these were made in various weights to accommodate battlefield conditions particularly ranges of attack. Mottled gray patina with a little degradation to the base.
