Edo Period, before 1867. Iron, 11 ½” width. With remnants of a silver figural overlay (zogan). The curve overlaid with a large brass figure of a mythological turtle with eared serpentine head and large fin-like projections. The inside with original wood liner secured with a pitch like material. Surface pitted.
