JAPANESE LACQUERED BOWL, OWAN. MEIJI PERIOD, BEFORE 1912

4 5/8” diameter with deep red body color inside and out. The top with an eagle perched on a wood frame stretching a shade cloth. As with many cultures, the eagle was admired and respected. It was embodied as the god Amenohiwashi-no-kami who brought good fortune. Two small chips to the lid edge have been properly relacquered. Excellent for the period.
