Forged iron, triangular section with three elegantly shaped fins and flared foot to mate with the shaft. Tapered tang. Just over 2 5/8” total length. See European Arrowheads and Crossbow Bolts, Rau, p.83. The construction of the triangular section is more complex than the flat arrowhead and it had to be made with good symmetry to assure true flight. While it is claimed by some that the wounds inflicted were more lethal and more difficult to heal, but that claim is disputed by others, our conclusion is that it provided superior penetration to leather armor by reducing surface friction. Excellent excavated condition.
