Romans were fastidious about hygiene (NB the baths) and removal of all body hair was part of the grooming process. These bronze tweezers, 1 7/8” long, were used for that purpose. The sliding locking ring assures a firm grip. A recent exhibition at Wroxeter in Shropshire, England features over 50 pairs of such tweezers along with other artifacts. A CNN article on the exhibition, illustrating tweezers such as this and their use, is available at https://www.cnn.com/style/article/roman-tweezers-discovery-gbr-scli-intl/index.html.
