ROMAN/BYZANTINE OIL LAMP 3RD-6TH CENTURY AD

The period of the rise and fall of the Roman Empire. Terra cotta, 4 1/4” (4.31”) length. Domed top with crenulated surround to the filler hole, flanked by palm fronds. A geometric figure above the spout, perhaps a saltire obscured suggesting early Christian use. Surface with expected wear from burial. Together with an ancient Roman green glass shard.
