10” diameter, 3 7/8” thick. Convex one piece wood (oak?) sides and 25 staves, one with inset cylindrical spout. Outer hoops riveted at the bottom and secured with double cross ties, recessed for anchoring shoulder strap.  The staves loose within the hoops from shrinkage but complete and original throughout. See Collector’s Illustrated Encyclopedia of the Revolutionary War, Neumann, p.60 for a related example, though this example is nearly 50% larger than the largest shown. A museum piece with great age character.
