Forged iron, 3 ¼” length. Elegantly scalloped triangular loop. The center three circles pierced through. Scalloped or fluted top portending the Maximillian form and recurved suspension bar with pierced rectangular center and fluted conical terminal. See Metropolitan Museum 2010.180.2, online and displayed in Gallery 307, for a near identical example identified as French, 15th century. The quality suggests that this accessory served a knight, probably noble, suspending a sword such as our A5986.
