Early-mid 19th century. Excellent example of a type typically encountered in poor condition. 10 ½” length with wood triangular section body (some say turtle form) overlaid in black leather with tack studded red fabric bands along the edges. Turned wood spout. Double brass suspension rings. Wonderful genuinely aged condition. The leather dry with minor cracking but complete with excellent surface. Fabric and studs complete as made. Best preservation for these, which are usually dry with the leather tattered, that we have seen.
