Also known as a Morning star, this weapon was comprised a hardwood shaft of about 6” length with a cluster of heavy iron spikes embedded and could be used by an untrained foot soldier to attack cavalry and infantry alike. See Stone fig.374 and the reference image from our stock. Recovered at Königstein Castle, Hesse, Germany, between Frankfurt and Wiesbaden. Iron, 3 7/8” length comprising addorsed elongated pyramid forms with original blacksmiths vice marks at the center. The castle ruins stand today with the earliest portions reduced to the ground floor in the 14th century and rebuilt and fragmented several times thereafter with several buildings in the town of Königstein constructed from the castle stone. Rarely encountered with such specific and historic information and in crisply preserved condition.
