Romano-Egypt. The shape of the lamp is Hellenistic Greek as produced centuries earlier in bronze. It is of dilychoni form meaning with two spouts or nozzles. The Rosette or well is decorated with a foliate wreath and the handle features a figure of Serapis wearing a modius. Serapis was a syncretic Greco-Egyptian god combining the attributes of Osiris and Zeus. The back is pierced for mounting on a metal stand. 6 5/8” length.
