Found in Charleston SC and purchased from Schindler’s Antiques, King St, Charleston about 1970.

3 1/8” height with low raised foot and flared rim above 3 decorative bands. Typical Confederate private mess article.  See Echoes of Glory, Arms and Equipment of the Confederacy, p.214 for a similar example owned by Confederate General John Pegram, killed at the Battle of Hatcher's Run, March 31, 1865. This example shows oxidation to about a third of its circumference from having been partially buried, small punched hole and soldered repair to the base until it was found in the 1950’s.
