Forged iron 6 3/4” width with central crescent form blade to produce a concave surface on a plank. Tapered tangs for two wood handles. See The Mastermyr Find, A Viking Tool Chest from Gotland, pl.13 #54 for similar examples found in Gotland Sweden. That find is a tool chest with carpenter’s tools intact. Also see p.36 for and example in the Norwegian National Museum as mounted for use. These would have been used to carve semi-circular hollow in wood such as for making a wood bowl. One of only three examples in private hands known to us.
