Known as khodmi, these were made in southern Algeria and Morocco. Said to derive their form from the Corsican vendetta daggers of the 18th and 19th century, they are skillfully made by different makers and at different times. Quite likely an heirloom with a then-contemporary mate. Dating to the French conflicts, late 19th-early 20th centuries. 6 ¼” and 5 3/8” blades, each with the slightly hooked tip. Each decorated with stamps and with figural backs. Each with integral bolster and wire wrap to the base of the well-carved grip. One with old solder stabilizing wire breaks. Original brown and black leather covered scabbards linked with a leather band from which is suspended sharpening steel, stone hone, and a leather pendant to bring complete the lucky number “3”. Wonderful age character and only such conjoined set we have encountered.
