Late 19th to early 20th century. 13 3/4” length plus the loop terminal. To all appearances, a standard commercial quirt completely encased in woven and reeded leather. The knob to weighted and of cosh or blackjack from, exactly as found on waterfront coshes. The grip removes to produce a 9 ¼” diamond section blade. Grip-strap lacking, otherwise excellent with minor wear points. Probably from a waterfront town where, of course, horses were still used at the time.
