With the fall of the Commonwealth Government after Cromwell’s death, Charles II was restored to the throne in 1660 and Parliament passed the Clarendon Code which comprising several acts dramatically limiting the activities of any Protestants not following the Anglican church, referred to in England at that time as Nonconformists. This bible, printed in 1683 is “revised by his Majesties Special command.  Appointed to be read at Churches was printed pursuant to the Code”.
