Late 18th century-1800. Characteristic long elegant form based on the Italian model. 12 1/4” .61 caliber barrel decorated overall in three stages with Tang decorated to match and all quite strong. Slab side lock with foliage engraving in three vignette. Brass furniture. One-piece stock with star and crescent motif brass wrist escutcheon and bone inlays. Full-length functional ramrods as very rarely found as these were serviced with the suma, which was suspended with the priming flask. Lineal check or scratch to the right side. The left with lightly scratched Wigg, presumably the name of the soldier who captured the gun. Good glossy patina throughout. An excellent example of these classic horseman’s pistols.
