Classic example for its type (Stone fig. 66 #6, Riling p.105 #102).  9” length, brass in two addorsed chambers of elegant recurved “bird form” (Riling calls it swan form) with a band at the junction. Sprung spout lever and fancy pierced suspension ring. Engraved overall. One segment with panels of nobles and courtesans. The other in matching panels of naturalistic foliage. Shows age and use with wonderful patina. The decoration all in good contrast. Two small bruises to the bottom and interestingly, a few “burs” remaining from the engraver’s tool to the underside of the tail. These would have been polished off overall, but evidently missed here.
