31” straight double edged blade. Brass hilt of distinctive form with a crown on the pommel and the leaping horse of Hanover in relief on the guard. The British monarchy was assumed by George I of the House of Hanover in 1714 upon the death of Queen Anne who left no surviving male heir. George was Anne’s second cousin. These swords were known to be used by Sir William Pepperell's 51st Regiment of Foot, 1745-56 against the French and Indians. Surviving examples surely owe their existence to service in the American Revolution.  See "Swords & Blade of the American Revolution," Neumann, p. 72. For a virtually identical example.
