Created by the Modellwerkstatt das Reichsbundes fuer Deutsche (Model workshop of the Reichsbund for Germans) to represent the work of imagined ancestors and promote the concept of Aryan superiority. Things related to hunting, food preparation, cloth production, primitive medicine and others including complex mechanical devices were produced to German high standards. This example is a spear, suitable for hunting or battle, with tapered hardwood haft and deer or elk antler head. It is 78 1/4” in length and in excellent preservation. It comes from the collection of the Detroit Institute of Arts, identified as from “The German Prehistoric Society” and was deaccessioned in 2000. It bears its 1937 Detroit Institute of Arts 1937 accession number in the butt.
