Late 19th century. 10 1/8” length, sheathed, with 4 7/8” scalloped back blade. The hilt and scabbard of bronze with cloisonné surface depicting winged dragons and foliate motifs in red, white, blue and green. The technique and its products were a rage in Russia at the time and are preserved in every sort of table ware and serving pieces. Daggers are rarer, had traditional costume significance and were reproduced later in poorer quality and simulated technique. This example is original and iconic for the period.
