Brass hilt of 1889 pattern with crowned cipher of Kaiser Wilhelm. Silver wire wrapped ray skin grip (very minor wear). 23 1/8” piped back blade with raided false edge marked ERFURT (arsenal) and showing very light edge bruising. Leather scabbard with brass or copper mounts (remnants of gold surface) marked L G to reverse. A heavy fighting sword in excellent preservation. The blade length indicates probable use by a Naval officer.
