Spain or North Italy.  Brass hilt, originally gilt with double shell guards with classical masks inside and out. The quillon block with matching masks. The knuckle bow and pommel with classical Roman warriors. Wire wrapped grip with inset bars in the Spanish taste. 31 ¾” blade of flattened diamond section. The forte with convex faces and decorated with lineal recessions and large scrolling foliage. Some wear throughout. Sword fighting including dueling was common in both Spain and Northern Italy at the time. This is the sword of a middle-class man for wear and use in the streets.
