Forged iron, 5 3/8” length with elongated diamond section point, flared foot and tapered tang. Its form like the standard crossbow bolts of the period but larger and requiring a “wall crossbow” or ballista for launching. The former would have been fired from a rest while the ballista is constructed on a frame which stood alone. This bolt could have penetrated the wood sheathing of the siege machines which were drawn up against the walls of a castle and fortress where they sheltered “pioneers” who breached the wall.
